Savannah is a city known for her history – but who says history has to be ancient to be history? In 2010, the Thunderbird Inn – “The hippest hotel in Savannah” ™ – made the National Register of Historic Places, representing the classic roadside motel of the 1960s. Gas was cheap, cars were big and Americans were mobile. Yes, indeed! Savannah is a pet-friendly destination (especially dachshund lovers) on this beautiful Oktoberfest morning along the Savannah riverfront in Morrell Park today! Pet lovers flew in from Seattle, and drove in from all over the southeast — Vera Beach, Raleigh, Augusta, Hilton Head. Our post-event registration review will tell us all the city names!
Pet lovers came in mass to the 12th Annual Wiener Dog Races, sponsored by Savannah Morning News and benefiting Dachshund Rescue of North America. Tourists and locals found wholesome fun and wonderfully, no-so-serious (mostly unrehearsed!) competition.
Run for a treat? Run for an “atta boy”? Yup, that’s what over 200 little dachshund darlings were doing; and, it was heartwarming to be a part of it! The Thunderbird Inn in Savannah‘s beautiful downtown is the 2011 lodging sponsor for the Savannah Weiner Dog Races.
“When we arrived it was obvious this place [The Thunderbird Inn, downtown Savannah GA] caters to the dog-loving crowd.
Even the house keepers made a point to say hello to the dogs.” – Suzanne Jalot, Dog Living Magazine
What a thrilled for our pet-friendly Thunderbird Inn in downtown Savannah to be featured in “Dog Friendly Magazine”, September 2011! We were happy to champion and host this publisher’s visit, and to showcase the many ways that Savannah is wonderfully inviting and welcoming to pet-lovers their four-legged, family pals.
We have found a niche here at The Thunderbird inn in downtown Savannah as a pet-friendly hotel. We think the success comes, in part, because we make and keep rules, and guests like that! Pet-loving travelers are attentive to their traveling pets needs, behavior, readiness to travel. They appreciate that our hotel staff and management dedicate a lot of attention to making the pet(s) and all our human guests happy and comfortable.
