Catch “The Boulevard” Travel Video in Downtown Savannah Georgia

The Thunderbird Inn recruited more than a dozen of its closest business friends to help film “The Boulevard,” now playing below and on a YouTube screen near you.

The name comes from Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, just a block or so away from our retro hotel. We planned the video to showcase the area within a couple of blocks of the boulevard – from Barnard to Boundary streets — a treasure trove of attractions new and old that often fly below visitors’ radar. Ships of the Sea Museum, SCAD Museum of Art, and the Georgia State Railroad Museum are some of the better known destinations in our new video, but we can introduce both tourists and locals to undiscovered gems.

For example, you can drop the better part of 20 bucks to lunch on famous soul food Southern cooking in downtown Savannah – and we’d be among the first to admit it’s worth every penny. But the Boulevard hosts an authentic soul food restaurant where you can fill up for a mere $5 on an equally memorable meal, seven days a week.

So check out our video. It’s a fast-paced preview of what’s in striking distance of the hippest hotel in Savannah! The collaborative video project was developed by Thunderbird Inn’s general manager, Mark Thomas, local marketing consultant Sandy Traub, and Guy Smith’s Popcorn Octane LLC digital production firm based in Hilton Head Island, SC.

SCAD Graduation: Cool Hotel, Hot Tickets

Savannah GA Inns and Hotels card

Welcome to Savannah, Georgia!

Got a soon-to-be SCAD grad on your family tree or your Facebook page? If so, you need to get busy. Graduation ceremonies are June 2, and the Thunderbird Inn is already half way to full that weekend.

The SCAD Class of 2012 (Savannah College of Art and Design for those of you who missed acronym practice) has grown so large that it will take three ceremonies at the Savannah Civic Center to fit all the pomp and circumstance in. Read the schedule and details at http://www.scad.edu/experience/events/commencement/index.cfm.

Or you could just take our word for it. The largest, most comprehensive ceremony starts at 9 a.m., with seating opening at 8 a.m. Translation: you’re gonna want to get here Friday. And the later of the two degree presentation ceremonies doesn’t wrap up until 6 p.m. Translation: stay Saturday night, so you can celebrate in style.

You can drop a fortune on hotel rooms in Savannah – but thanks to the Thunderbird Inn, you don’t have to. A room with two double beds is $146/night, and king rooms are $159/night. Or splurge for the amenity-rich retro king rooms at $175 a night. (Plus tax, of course – but as someone smart enough to know a college graduate, you expected that.) And parking is both available and free at the Thunderbird, and we’re within walking distance of the graduation venue.

No wonder the Thunderbird Inn is already half-full for SCAD graduation weekend!

And don’t worry if not everyone in your party can score a ticket to the graduation (they’re in limited supply, you know.) All rooms at the Thunderbird come with free Wi-Fi. Hey, we may be retro but we’re also the hippest hotel in Savannah!

Be Part of Springtime’s Music Festivals In Savannah!

Savannah Music Festival lodging Savannah downtown at Thunderbird Inn

Downtown Savannah lodging for Spring music festivals

Savannah really heats up in the spring, and as the hippest hotel in town, The Thunderbird Inn is right in the center of it.

Lots of March’s activity in Savannah centers on music. There’s the Savannah Stopover Music Festival with more than 70 up and coming (or already there) bands from March 7 to 10, but that’s just for starters. The Thunderbird Inn downtown has special rates $89/weekday. Rate code to request is S_Over.

The big boy on the music block is the Savannah Music Festival, which arrives March 22, 2012, and runs through April 7. It offers three weeks of world-class music in 23 different genres. Put on your dancing shoes at a zydeco dance party, savor the best in bluegrass, check out masters of jazz – all at venues within easy striking distance of the Thunderbird Inn. Request special lodging rates for festival goers — $89/weekday, $129 weekend dates. The rate code to request is SMF.

At The Thunderbird, we live and breathe the Sixties. Since music was so central to that decade, it stands to reason we attract a lot of music fans. And, with our vintage rates, you’ll still have money left over to buy tickets and T-shirts!

Of course music isn’t the only thing happening in Savannah’s springtime. The Ships of the Sea Museum, just around the corner on the boulevard (41 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., to be precise) will be unveiling its beautiful new garden this month, the perfect complement to an intriguing museum collection housed in a gracious historic mansion. The museum advises probably in April 2012, but no specific date is set yet.

Be part of spring in Savannah! Make your reservations today at The Thunderbird Inn, the hippest hotel in Savannah ™. To stay in tune follow us on Twitter @TbirdInn and Facebook.

Americana, Bold and Old in Savannah, Part of “What’s New”, says retro Thunderbird Inn

Savannah, Georgia, is an old town with a new spirit! Thunderbird Inn is thrilled to be a celebrant of what’s new about the old, and champion of retro Savannah!

In November 2011, a guest wrote, “Feel new in the old” in a TripAdvisor review, talking about Thunderbird Inn in downtown Savannah, Georgia. The inn boasts new interior paint (inspired by authentic historic Savannah colors and Thunderbird’s original paint), and a/c and heat units with popular remote controls, plus hot popcorn on arrival. Those updates are not all that is inspiring guests.

Authentically Modern & Hip in Savannah Since 1964 — Thunderbird Inn!

The DOCOMOMO US National Tour Day events in Savannah are October 78-8, 2011. The Thunderbird Inn in Savannah (circa 1964) is thrilled to be numbered among the modern buildings. We are noticing lately that our fun, experiential marketing’s cool, hip vibe — jump started from our highway motel’s “Hippest hotel in Savannah” (TM) slogan — is getting mussed about (inappropriately, we add) by others. We wonder, “Why trample on the little guy to inch into our hard-earned, groovy Savannah hotel lodging niche?”

So, today to commemorate the cool, modern DOCOMOMO tour and events and our “Hippest Hoste in Savannah” slogan, our so-cool, quirky billboard reads:

Authentically
Hip and cool
Since 1964
Do not go for
impostors

“Stay Hip!” says Mark Thomas, General Manager at the Thunderbird Inn in Savannah, GA
